I can’t believe it’s already the last day of October! I’ve been back to blogging for two whole months now and it’s been a lot of fun. I started blogging to have a creative outlet for my new career as a stay at home mom. Even though I am tackling some serious subjects, I like to add in lighthearted things too! This is one of them.
I love watching monthly favorites on youtube, so why not bring that to my blog? October means everything fall, and I’ve made a few discoveries lately that I wanted to share. Here goes!
:: OCTOBER FAVORITES ::
Davines Color Safe Shampoo – This shampoo is MAGIC for color-treated hair. I’ve been coloring my hair since I was in middle school and no matter how many shampoo labels say they’re “color safe,” I always find my color fading more quickly than I want. I recently bought a new bottle of Davines Minu Shampoo and it makes my color look fresh for months and months. It also smells great and lathers really nicely.
PSL Facial – For my anniversary, my husband gifted me with a spa day out. My local spa had a pumpkin spice facial that was heavenly. It smelled great and the pumpkin enzymes are a chemical exfoliator that clarifies and brightens your complexion. For an at-home version, try MyChelle’s Incredible Pumpkin Peel.
Pacifica Brightening Mask – Pacifica’s Kale Brighten AHA Surface Overhaul mask is a new purchase for me and so far I’m really liking it! It’s supposed to tackle age spots, rough skin texture, and an uneven complexion (I’m working with all three lately!). It goes on smoothly, works right into my Sunday spa/self-care routine, is easy to use, is cruelty-free and vegan, and is a surprisingly reasonable price. I will be using a lot more Pacifica skincare in the future!
Fall Music – The youtube channel “AlexrainbirdMusic” is my new addiction. It has monthly mixes of independent folk and alternative music. The holiday themes like the Halloween mix are great. It’s so nice to pop on one of these hour long mixes and get things done around the house. It’s like Starbucks music: pleasant and inoffensive. Just right for cleaning, studying, and napping babies.
Studio TIU App – I’m a huge Tone It Up (TIU) fan and have been a member since fall of 2015. In the future, I’d like to blog about my TIU journey. For now, I’m loving their brand new app: Studio Tone It Up. There’s a subscription service for $12.99 a month with new daily workouts and community hangouts. That’s on my Christmas wishlist! For now, I’m loving it for their 5 daily moves and workout check-ins.
Marie Forleo Interview with Dr. Shefali Tsabary – Dr. Shefali wrote the book “Conscious Parenting” and I recently watched an interview with her from MarieTV on youtube. Dr. Shefali really turns a lot of parenting advice on its head and advises parents to step back and examine their own motives before they discipline or educate their children. The general idea is that dealing with your own stuff first helps you parent better and more “consciously.” Worth a listen!
Pumpkin Day – Pumpkin Day is my absolute favorite day of the whole year! Our local pumpkin patch has a huge festival with a big corn maze, pony rides, a huge slide, apple cider, funnel cakes, and a hayride to their massive pumpkin patch. We’ve been going with our friends for the past five years. This is the first year we all have kids! That was really special even though my little pumpkin fell asleep in his baby carrier for a lot of it.
Ray LaMontagne in Atlantic City – I went with my bestie to the Borgata in Atlantic City to see Ray LaMontagne perform. I saw him when he was just starting out maybe ten years ago at the Boulder Theater in Boulder, Colorado. What a change in venue! It’s exciting that he’s earned so much recognition and appreciation since I heard him last. If you haven’t listened to him before, it’s well worth your time to check him out! Amazing voice and singer-songwriter style music.
Kari Jobe the Garden Tour – I went with a close friend this month to see Kari Jobe for the FOURTH time while she led a worship night for her Garden Tour! The thing I love about Kari Jobe is that it’s not a concert at all. It’s a night of prayer and worship. She is such a powerful worship leader who really taps into God’s healing power and His Presence. Every time I see her, I come away changed. We were also lucky enough to be part of a Q&A with Kari and her husband! I’ve seen her at a Meet and Greet and a Q&A is a thousand times better. I was also able to snag some vinyl and a t-shirt. Such an uplifting night!
NYC Trip – Who doesn’t love NYC in the fall? I saw a good friend from Australia who I haven’t seen in 15 years. We met up at the Ritz Carlton Central Park for Manhattans (in Manhattan!) and talked, laughed, reminisced, and had a great afternoon. Later that day, I met my sister-in-law who lives in NYC, and we had dinner before I took the train home. Such a fun day trip!!
There you have it! My October Favorites! I hope you enjoyed this post, and I look forward to working on new favorites every month. Have a wonderful Halloween and I’ll see you next time!
